Who We Are

Carlita Scarboro-Vazquez (b.1971, Washington, DC) lives and works in the city of Atlanta, Georgia. Synthesizing the artistic traditions of digital art, graphic design, painting and mixed media, Carlita Scarboro-Vazquez has developed a unique visual style. As a creative spirit Scarboro-Vazquez received her formal education as an artist at Howard University in Washington, D.C. where she obtained her Bachelors of Fine Arts degree. At Howard, Scarboro-Vazquez's academic focus was in Experimental Studio with an emphasis in printmaking, painting and sculpture. "Art is everywhere" is the philosophy that Scarboro-Vazquez possesses. Upon completion of her BFA she went on to gain a Master's degree in Business further enhancing her artistic pursuits (From what school?). Her prints have been featured in several shows and her printmaking work was added to the permanent collection at the Howard University Law School and Dupont Circle in Washington, DC. Other showings include the United Way Loudermilk Center, Castleberry Artist Stroll and Aviation Community Cultural Center.

Strategies & Plans

Scarboro-Vazquez relocated to Atlanta, Georgia working for the Art Institute of Atlanta as the Student Activities Coordinator, where she was provided the space to further her artistic pursuits. Within this role she was responsible for all of the graphic design done for the AiA Student Affairs department. (Did you do anything else? Any art pieces you created?)

Scarboro-Vazquez currently uses mixed media, photography and digital art created with Resolume Arena and TouchDesigner. As part of the yearlong Georgia Tech Cohort (Art+Technology - Code.org) her coding and digital skills have been incorporated in recent works. She is producing a series of panel paintings and mixed media digital work. As a creative, Scarboro-Vazquez's work is thought provoking and extends beyond the 2-dimensional canvas. Most recent project includes the Collaboration with Spelman Dance in which data sets and digital mapping were used in collaboration with dancers to create an immersive experience.
